Keeper Notebook: Goal Kicks

The May 1st practice included some work on goal kicks but we didn't talk about how to make the kick itself. Here's a quick guide to taking goal kicks that Bill put together for the keepers that includes some pictures. Take a look and see if it might help improve your goal kicks. (Click here to download an MS Word version.)

There was also some confusion about what happens when a goal kick is received by one of the kicker's team mates within the "penalty area" (that is, the large 18-yard box). Law 16 says that the kicker's team cannot touch the ball until it it goes into play by crossing entirely over the boundary of the 18-yard box. But there is no penalty if that happens (at least if it isn't the kicker herself who touches the ball a second time). Play is restarted by retaking the kick.
